I can still remember your smile.

A whisper of blush

Blowing across your face

As you hid against the wall,

allowing your bones and flesh

to be swallowed up

Until you were taken away

into the peeling paint

Your back slouched into a hunch.

A fallen feather to the cold icy floor.

You shrank away into the soil

Embers falling at your feet

Ashes slipping through your fingers

Your laughter,

a silent echo

In the valley of a bruised heart

Falling away

Up into the sky

It was your rebirth.

Your mind being the womb

Of your new and tender heart.

You reached

into the watery case of the mirror

Plunging into silvery light

Staring at the fragments around you

Grasping at the shards

One by one

Piecing them together

Nicking your thumb

Wincing

As rivulets

Of golden blood

Travel down your wrist

These pieces

These shards glazed in hope

You have connected together.

The scars still remain on your hand.

Shaped like stars

laced with flecks of gold.
